Among items discussed were at the Parish Council meeting in February 2003 were: Police Speed ChecksA request was made for speed checks on Sundays because of the many speeding motorbikes coming through the villages. The Police say that they are aware of the problem but, at the moment, they have no staff available. However, they will monitor the situation. Speed checks have been carried out between April 1st and September 30th (2002) and 58 people have been dealt with for speeding. The Equestrian Centre The College have applied for planning permission for a retail shop, which they say will cause no extra traffic, as it will be used by people already attending the centre. Planning Permission has been granted for the conversion of a barn at Mount Pleasant Farm, Bolnhurst to three short-stay holiday units. Planning permission has also been granted for Elm Farm, Keysoe to be used for residential and educational purposes for a maximum of four 11 to 16 year olds. We understand that Sedgemoor College is now in the process of buying Elm Farm. Parish Council InsuranceThe Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity recently organized an “Insurance Advice Evening” for Parish Councils. It seems that we are legally insured for everything we should be, but it could be advisable to insure against “libel and slander”. Further advice will be sought. Annual Parish MeetingThis will take place in March 2003 and the Borough Planner, David Bailey, will be invited to attend, as will Tom Wootton, the new County Councillor. Other ItemsKeysoe Parochial Church Council have written to thank the Parish Council for their generous grant which has enabled them to install a winding mechanism for the church clock. There will be no Parish Council meeting in December. The next meeting will be on 20th January, 2003. |
