Over the past four months the Village Hall has been transformed on most Tuesday evenings into a glittering ballroom under the careful eye of Lyn Armsby, ex-World Champion Ballroom & Latin American Dancer, and now the wonderful instructor to the Keysoe & Bolnhurst ballroom dancers. Lyn has put the dancers through their paces and the group have learned to Foxtrot socially, Cha Cha, Waltz and Quickstep - even the Samba and a bit of rock n' roll has been tried. Such is the enthusiasm with which the group embrace anything new that after the Tango Lyn had to advise them them all to head for the bar for a well-earned drink (presumably a can of fizzy orange!). Apparently early on in the training suggestions were made for a bigger hall. “We had all discovered that we had three left feet and our spare right foot usually ended up tripping up one of the other couples” says Edward Valletta, one of the group, “and despite there only being fourteen of us in total an extension was required to the Hall to make the dance floor big enough for us all as we end up careering off each other at the corners.” However, by the end of term things had got considerably better and there was definitely an improvement, “we discovered our own right feet and it was judged time for the competition and a Christmas party”, says Edward. At the competition, Kate, Lyn's beautiful and sophisticated 16-year old daughter, judged the proceedings which started with each couple being introduced to the televised audience across the world. Whilst the dancers waltzed and twirled around the floor, Kate walked amongst them and made notes in her little black book. In order to test the dancers to the very limits, the Foxtrot was made more complicated by the need to swap partners - the scandal from which Keysoe is still reeling (no pun intended). Once the music fell silent, and the dancing was over - and the partners rightfully reunited - prizes were awarded. The Keysoe Foxtrot champions are Bob Tarry and Wendy Leavey, Cha Cha champions Edward and Sally Valletta and Waltz champions Ro and Penny Hemming. If anyone should wish to join in with this wonderful sport they would be most welcome.
