An Update on Broadband for Keysoe and BolnhurstAll those that have forwarded their names to John Worth, our local Parish Councillor, will be pleased to hear that our bid to bring Broadband to Keysoe and Bolnhurst is surfing ahead. We have been allocated a consultant to assist in the preparation of our bid and two potential solutions are being investigated; I P Wireless and Simply Broadband. Advances in equipment design are impressive and the companies now talk of an operating radius in the order of about 12.5 miles. This has meant that the original discussions of 10 masts is likely to be reduced to 5, each covering a greater area. This is good news because it brings with it a cost reduction making our bid more effective. Other advances mean that only a small receiver will be necessary in each home, which can sit on your desk, combined with the possibility of mobile contact within the network area using a card (probably a PCMCIA card). It is likely that both potential suppliers will be invited to display their wares at a local exhibition or two, before the campaign is put into overdrive. We should know the results of our bid by the end of June. If anyone is interested in signing up, please contact John via email at John Worth providing him your name, home and email addresses plus your phone number. He is co-ordinating our overall entry to the competition. It is also important to register with the www.demandbroadband.com website, which is fronting the competition. Any other persons or businesses around the outside of the villages, might also like to make contact. The greater the number of people expressing an interest, the better our chances. |
