“Forget all the dithering, it’s all about to happen!”

Keysoe and Bolnhurst are now going ahead to introduce a wireless broadband system with a provisional start-up date of 10th November, 2003. The system will also provide a service to Little Staughton and Colmworth.

The company providing the service is call IPnrg, who have partnered up with the group that successfully provided the same system to Sherburn in Elmet (Yorkshire) that John Worth, our Parish Councillor behind this project, went to see as a reference site.

The service will cost £29.99 (+VAT) per month with a one-off installation cost of £176.25 (+VAT).

The service works using the same wireless technology (called 802.11b) that you will find in many large offices. This enables the equipment to be small and neat. These wireless transmitters will be linked to a main satellite dish in the village (it is likely that there will actually be 2 in our village) which beams everyone’s traffic backwards and forwards to the Internet.

Many homes will only require a small box to be fitted to an outside wall to receive the service

The service will provide similar speeds to BT’s Broadband service (known as ADSL), with download speeds of upto 512Kbps and upload speeds of 256Kbps, but with improved contention ratios (the number of people who share this “speed”).

To enquiry about getting this service please email John Worth.

In the worst case, those with particularly weak signals may require a pole transmitter (the surrounding buildings made a pole mast necessary for the installation shown above).

Homes (and businesses) with strong signals will only need a small desktop mounted transmitter
